Effective November 2, 2026
These Terms govern your use of the Food Recall Monitor API, its documentation, datasets and website (the “Service”), operated by Leland Wright (“we”, “us”). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you use it on behalf of an organization, you confirm you may bind that organization.
The Service republishes and normalizes public information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (openFDA food enforcement reports) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recall notices. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of FDA, USDA, or any government agency. Underlying records are U.S. government works; our normalization, allergen tags, categories and change history are derived data.
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Recall data may be delayed, incomplete, or wrong, and fields such as allergens, product categories and distribution states are generated automatically and can be inaccurate. The Service is not a food-safety guarantee and is not medical, legal, or regulatory advice. Do not rely on it as your only source for safety, compliance, or health decisions. Always confirm against the original notice in each record's source_url and against official agency announcements.
Access requires an API key, issued directly or through a marketplace (e.g. RapidAPI). Keep keys confidential; you are responsible for activity under your key. Each plan has usage quotas and feature limits; requests over quota may be rejected. Marketplace purchases are also subject to that marketplace's terms, billing and refund policies.
You may not: resell or redistribute raw API output as a competing recall data service; use the Service on Free, Basic or Pro plans for commercial redistribution in end-user products (Business plan required); attempt to bypass quotas, authentication or rate limits; overload or disrupt the Service; or use it for unlawful purposes. You may display recall information to your own users with attribution to the original source agency.
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the Service, including endpoints, fields, quotas and pricing, and will try to give reasonable notice of material changes. We do not guarantee any uptime unless agreed in writing.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or for illness, injury or product loss arising from reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the three months before the claim.
You will defend and indemnify us against claims arising from your use of the Service, your products, or your violation of these Terms.
We may suspend or revoke keys that violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service at any time.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
